Which church recently allowed gay clergy to be sexually active?
Was it the Episcopalians? I know that they allowed gay clergy as long as they were celibate, but I've heard that a church has recently allowed sexually active gay clergy as long as they are monogamous. Was it them, or was it someone else?

On the news today I heard an episcopal bishop stating that homosexuals should not be allowed to be ordained or even be lay preachers. He also stated that homosexuality is a sin which can be healed by the blood of jesus.

I agree, as soon as cruch leaders are allowed to openly sin, what accountability can they exersize on the church members? Theft, adultery, fornification (incl. gay), abuse and many more are actions not fit for any Christian, but especially if you are leading others!

The Lutheran pastor soon to be bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod wants his denomination to lift a celibacy requirement for gay and lesbian clergy.

"That's where I think the church is going," Bishop-elect Wayne Miller of Aurora, IL said. "That's where I think it needs to go."

He's hoping the change will come next month in Chicago, where the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is conducting its churchwide assembly. Nearly a third of the denomination's 65 synods are asking for a policy shift in clergy standards.

Eventually, gay and lesbian clergy in monogamous, same-sex relationships could be allowed to serve.

John Roberts of Chicago also hopes it could lead to the reinstatement of gay clergy removed from ministry. He says he was ousted as pastor of a Michigan church in the 1990s after he confided to his bishop that he was gay.

There is a requirement for all clergy (gay or straight) to remain celibate before marriage. Gay marriage under the legal system is illegal. However, it is legal for the Church to bless a couple, even if they arn't married according to the goverment. I feel they should, instead of lifting the celibacy ban, lift the ban on blessing same-sex couples. If they are blessed by the church, they will be married in God's eyes and in the church's eyes. Then they can wait until it is legal to marry and get a legal marriage too.

Who else applauds the good Christian denominations for allowing gay clergy?
First it was Quakers, Episcopalians and the United Church of Christ/Congregationalists.

We are all sinners and I am OK with gay church members. But, what follows churches accepting openly gay clergy? Doesn't that pave the way for admitted pedophiles and kleptomaniacs? Or would keeping them out be intolerant?

I think the answer is quite simple. If ANYONE is living in persistent unrepentant open rebellion to God's revealed will in Scripture, they shouldn't be in a leadership position in the Church.

As for gay men, I guess the question depends on how you see same-sex relationships. If they're ok, there would be no grounds to exclude them from leadership. If you think gay men should be celibate, then celibate gay men would be fine as pastors. IMO you can't really compare gay relationships with pedophiles since gay men are two consenting adults who love each other, which is a world away from guy abuse.

It is estimated that 75% of clergy in the Church of England are gay, so the church says nothing as it would shut down the church. I guess they place a lower priority to God's word.
